How to Assemble Your Cedar Hot Tub

A step-by-step visual guide to building your Fluid Float cedar tub from foundation to first fill.

01 · Prepare Foundation 02 · Position Floor 03 · Install Walls 04 · Install Seats 05 · Install Plumbing 06 · Complete Tub
01

Prepare Foundation

Prepare Foundation

Start with a level, stable base. Concrete pavers, packed gravel, or a poured slab all work well. The foundation must be perfectly level — this is the most critical step for a leak-free tub. Allow adequate space around the perimeter for the heating system skid pad and any optional enclosures.

02

Position the Floor

Position the Floor

Lower the cedar floor panel into place on the prepared foundation. The floor should sit flat and centered. Check for level in all directions before proceeding — small adjustments here prevent problems at every stage that follows.

03

Install the Walls

Install the Walls

Stand the cedar stave panels upright around the floor, working your way around the circumference. The tongue-and-groove joints should fit snugly together. Steel tension bands are placed around the exterior to hold the walls firmly in position as you work.

04

Install the Seats

Install the Seats

Fit the interior bench seats into position, securing them to the wall staves. Cedar seats are designed to interlock with the wall assembly for a solid, comfortable fit. Confirm all hardware is tightened evenly before moving to the plumbing stage.

05

Install the Plumbing & Electrical (if applicable)

Install the Plumbing

Connect the jet inlets, suction fittings, and drain lines through the pre-drilled wall openings. Run plumbing lines to the skid pad (spa pack) where your heater and pump will be located. All fittings should be hand-tightened then secured with the supplied hardware — do not overtighten.

If your tub includes an spa pack or gas heater system, have a licensed professional connect it to the appropriate power or gas supply before first use.

06

Complete the Tub

Complete the Tub

With plumbing connected and bands tensioned, your cedar tub assembly is complete. Fill with water to begin the initial swell cycle — this allows the cedar staves to expand and seal naturally. Check all fittings during the first fill and make any minor adjustments as needed.

Common Installation Layouts

Common installation layout diagram
Two common installation layouts are shown above. Example One illustrates a skid pad positioned to the side of the tub with an optional box enclosure — ideal when you have open yard space. Example Two shows the skid pad tucked directly below the tub deck, suited for tighter or deck-integrated installations. Both configurations support optional custom enclosures.
